Ramshackle Glam is a website about parenting, divorce, aging, mental health, and other funny stuff. Free posts are published every week, but FYI if you want to upgrade you’ll automatically receive an eBook that I wrote just for paid subscribers.
We just got back from a trip to see family in Canada, and I continue to be shocked/heartened by how viscerally I crave analog time with the kids — and how obvious it is that I’m enjoying myself when I look back at my camera roll and see I forgot to took photos, because I was doing the thing instead of observing its aesthetic potential. Growth!

What we did in Calgary:
Calaway Park
Magnet fishing/Metal detecting
BBQing
Board Game-ing (Do You Really Know Your Family and Charades for Kids)
Thrift store-rummaging (I found a pair of shorts that looks like every single other pair of shorts I own, a bunch of cool sweatshirts and henleys for my 13yo, and crafting supplies for my 10yo)
Tim Horton’s (Boston Cream donut) and Dairy Queen (Skor Blizzard)
Crafting: Specifically, we drew on shrink paper, baked the drawings, and made them into earrings and lockets. You need to do this; it’s so easy and fun.
Also, here are a couple of posts you might have missed:
Should You Ever Feel Bad About Your Parenting Choices: A Photo Essay
How To Make S’Mores Shots (Yes) (There’s also an N/A version)
Anyway. I’m back! On my to-do list at the moment is “figure out financial plan for remainder of truly disastrous year,” so instead of doing that I decided to put together a very long ramble of a post for you. Shall we?
